It is fair to say that balancing school can often be a difficult task. However, when you add being a full-time athlete that task can become just a little more demanding.

Here are 3 tips on how to organize yourself to effectively balance wrestling and academics so that you can be successful on and off the mat:

  1. Prioritize and plan your time
Use an agenda to plan your day and block off time for your commitments. For example, if you know you finish class at 2:00pm and have wrestling practice at 6:00pm, you can allot the time in the middle to finish your homework and study. Procrastinating will only lead to more stress – stay on top of your tasks to stay ahead because it is a lot easier to stay ahead than to play catch up down the road.
  2. Have a study buddy
Make studying and homework fun by doing it with your teammates. This way you can hold each other accountable and help one another be motivated to stay on task.
  3. Make time to recharge and relax
It is crucial to have downtime to recharge. Rest and proper sleep are essential for a student- athlete to perform well. Set time aside also to do other things you enjoy unrelated to your everyday commitments.

Balancing academics and sports require skills like time management. With balance, organization, and proper time management, you will set yourself up for success now and in the future!
